The Retreat at Bradley’s Pond-Tallahassee-Mr. & Mrs. Lee

Kelsey and Nick were married on a beautiful (and not humid) day at The Retreat at Bradleys Pond. From the moment I walked in, I could feel their excitement as their friends and family looked on. Their daughter Addy stole the show with her sweet and funny personality. I teared up when she turned the corner to come down the aisle as their flower girl and screamed “DADDY” and ran to Nick. There is nothing sweeter than this families love. During their first dance, Addy just had to join in and Nick sang the song to his girls. But, one of the most memorable moments was during the newlyweds special shoot right before sunset. When we were almost done, Kelsey gave Nick a very special book- just for him- his reaction was priceless. I shot his opening it and once he realized that his gift was a “little black book,” I smiles and walked away to let them have their moment. Their guests danced and laughed and danced! It was an honor photographing them!

(Below is an excerpt from what I ask them once they book with me)

Tell me your story

  • I would love it if you would take a few minutes to tell me more about you and your fiance. Thank you.
  • Q. How did y’all meet?
    A. We were in middle school and had Pre-Algebra together. Nick always asked asked me questions pretending he didn’t know the answer and that’s when it all began!
  • Q. What are your favorite things about each other?
    A. He likes my conservative personality and my hair and I like his out going personality and he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks of him!
  • Q. Where do y’all work?
    A. Nick is a welder at B & T Fencing, and I am an administrative assistant.
  • Q. What are your favorite hobbies?
    A. Nick’s favorite hobbies are his “motorized toys.” He also loves to skateboard! I love to shop and drink wine!!
  • Q. What is your favorite place to visit and why?
    A. We both love the beach! It is very relaxing and we can’t put all worries aside. And of course, my fiance loves to fish!
  • Q. How did you choose your ceremony and reception site?
    A. The Retreat at Bradley’s Pond was the most accommodating for us. The price was right and it gives us all the room we need.
  • Q. If an engagement session is included in your coverage, what month works for you?
    A. October
  • Q. Why did you choose Kay Meyer Photography for your wedding?
    A. Kay Meyer Photography captured my eye from the beginning. I kept looking around and I always went back to Kay Meyer. That is when I knew you were the photographer that I wanted to capture the best day of my life!

Pebble Hill Plantation-Thomasville-Mr. & Mrs. D’Souza

Amanda and Joey were married on a gorgeous May day at Pebble Hill Plantation. John Gandy and his team exceeded expectations with the gorgeous details at both The Garden wedding ceremony and the reception at The Stables. John and Darin’s use of  whites, silvers, champagne with pops of vibrant colors looked elegant. I photographed Joey and Amanda’s engagement session and I knew this day would be a whole lot of fun. Loads of laughing, sweet touches and hours of dancing made their day complete. One of my favorite things was when Joey’s groomsman read the book “A Lovely Love Story.” This is how Joey popped the question to Amanda when he proposed. And she said YES!

A Lovely Love Story- Edward Monkton

The fierce Dinosaur was trapped inside his cage of ice.

Although it was cold he was happy in there. It was, after all, his cage.

Then along came the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

The Lovely Other Dinosaur melted the Dinosaur’s cage with kind words and loving thoughts.

I like this Dinosaur thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

Although he is fierce he is also tender and he is funny.

He is also quite clever though I will not tell him this for now.

I like this Lovely Other Dinosaur, thought the Dinosaur.

She is beautiful and she is different and she smells so nice.

She is also a free spirit which is a quality I much admire in a dinosaur.

But he can be so distant and so peculiar at times, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

He is also overly fond of things.

Are all Dinosaurs so overly fond of things?

But her mind skips from here to there so quickly thought the Dinosaur.

She is also uncommonly keen on shopping.

Are all Lovely Other Dinosaurs so uncommonly keen on shopping?

I will forgive his peculiarity and his concern for things, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

For they are part of what makes him a richly charactered individual.

I will forgive her skipping mind and her fondness for shopping, thought the Dinosaur.

For she fills our life with beautiful thoughts and wonderful surprises. Besides,

I am not unkeen on shopping either.

Now the Dinosaur and the Lovely Other Dinosaur are old.

Look at them.

Together they stand on the hill telling each other stories and feeling the warmth of the sun on their backs.

And that, my friends, is how it is with love.

Let us all be Dinosaurs and Lovely Other Dinosaurs together.

For the sun is warm.

And the world is a beautiful place

Los Robles Women’s Club-Tallahassee-Mr. & Mrs. Fernandez

Arden and Ned were married at St. Peters Anglican Church followed by a reception at the historic Los Robles Womens Club in Tallahassee.  Missy Gunnels used a piece of her mothers dress as a part of her bridal bouquet. Ned gave Arden a necklace and bracelet that belonged to his mother and his sisters helped put them on the bride. I love when sentimental touches are added to a wedding day.

A little known fact is that they were the last couple married at St. Peters before the new church opened. The couples first look, bridal and family portraits were photographed at McCord Park before the wedding (one of my favorite hidden gems.) Once at the reception, their guests enjoyed food by Vicki Cureton, beverages from On the Rocks and hours of fun dancing to The Groove Merchants. After their sparkler exit, they were whisked away in a convertible Bentley.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Fernandez!

Tallahassee Garden Club-Tallahassee-Mr. & Mrs. Bishop

Hayley and Jackson were married at the quaint Tallahassee Garden Club. It threatened rain all day, but the skies could not stop their excitement and love. The lace bolero that Hayley ordered from etsy.com was the perfect addition to her classic strapless dress. The groom and groomsmen looked handsome with their suspenders, especially the adorable ring bearer!

A lovely evening was had by all. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Bishop!

The Grove Plantation-Tallahassee-Mr. & Mrs. Ellis

Whitney and Davis were married at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Tallahassee with their reception immediately following at a historic Tallahassee landmark,The Grove. There hasn’t been non-family wedding at The Grove and Whitney and David were the first. The Grove is a former Governors Mansion and sits right beside the current home of Florida’s Governor on 1st Avenue.

The property is just gorgeous for a celebration and the Smith-Ellis Wedding was a step above. What a wedding it was! From guests riding the trolley to the reception and valet to champagne handed to guests as they arrived. No detail was overlooked. It was so wonderful!

With the cocktail hour on the front lawn with a trio and the reception under a transparent tent in the back- guests truly enjoyed themselves. Uptown kept the crowd dancing all night and Whitney and David’s custom glow cups lit their way to their honeymoon.

Congrats Mr & Mrs Ellis!!

And thank you Whitney for the sweet review!

Here’s the thing about Kay that makes her the perfect wedding photographer: She’s on top of it. From our first meeting with her, she was as professional as they come and her flexibility was beyond great. We opted out of traditional bridal portraits and engagement shoot in favor of having her at more events. She shot our engagement party 8 months before the wedding and then our rehearsal dinner and the wedding day. It was great to have time to get comfortable with her. She’s also incredibly responsive. When our images from the engagement party were first burned on a CD, somehow the computer missed a few. Within an hour of notifying her, she uploaded the rest of the images to a website for us to download. She made it all easy. Her demeanor around our large, loud family was absolutely perfect. She has no problems telling people where to go, how to stand, and what to do without being abrasive or rude. On top of all of that, the images she created are beautiful. They are truly treasures we will keep forever.
